This listing is for a single bedroom in the vegan housing cooperative on Woodland Terrace –right next to the trolley stop at 40th and Baltimore (You can get anywhere you need to in Philly just by walking around the corner and hopping on the trolley to center city -its super clutch). Im taking a leave of absence from Penn to pursue a professional opportunity and will be out of state immediately after finals. You could move in before going on break if you like.
At the Co-op, we split the cost of utilities, bulk produce orders, and miscellaneous purchases required to keep the house running smoothly. Since we split things ten ways, things are usually less than $100 a month additional per person. Five days a week, a pair of cooking partners prepare a vegan dinner for the house. I cook on Sundays and my cooking partner is a badass. I think the schedule may get rearranged next semester but if not, you’re winning the lottery I promise. Also, we generally have house meetings on Sundays at 6:30. (oh btw there’s a third-floor kitchen where u can totes cook meat)
The only real shortcoming to this situation is that this is a walkthrough room. One housemate –a delightful middle school teacher and recent Penn grad– has to walk through the room to get to her’s; and, the first-floor bathroom is attached to the room. As a financially independent, FGLI student (read: ballin on a budget) these inconveniences were worth a room that’s half the cost of every other option close to campus.
Im leaving the bed (its someone else’s but is staying in the room), minifridge, air conditioner, and popup closet behind. oh and the white door in the pic is the side door to the house so you would kind of have your own entrance. The only other person with a key to that door is the one who lives in the room behind that brown door in the pic. This is a super supportive, positive, and flower friendly community. So yea, buy my room. (lease ends in May)
While thousands of people have successfully used Pennlets to rent out a place or find a place to sublet, like anywhere on the web, there can sometimes be unscrupulous people trying to scam unsuspecting users. Beware of anyone asking you for an unusual financial transaction. Here's one that's been reported to us several times: someone agrees to rent your place and sends you a check or money order for too much money as a "mistake," and then asks you to write a check for the "extra" amount back to them or to a third party. DON'T FALL FOR IT! Cash the check or money order and verify with your bank that the funds have cleared before you issue a refund or take any further action with your renter.
